For the past 12 years, analog cameras and DVR recorders, also known as Closed Circuit Television Video (CCTV), acted as the backbone of security video, replacing tape based video cassette recorders (VCR). Now, due to limited ability to share video data from analog cameras, newer technology must be utilized to use security systems more efficiently.
Before security professionals choose to migrate from analog to newer video technology, the following should be considered:
- Do we use our video system to its full potential today?
- If my video recording system fails tomorrow, will I be prepared to make the right replacement choice or lock myself in to older technology?
- Is working with my current video solution simple, fast and efficient?
Once the decision to migrate is made, security professionals must determine which path to take on their video migration journey which is based on unique needs, budgets and operational requirements.
